Training by Training Officer
The District has a full-time Training Officer, responsible for all training needs (as outlined in the Training Program Statement). General responsibilities include: basic firefighting to all personnel, supervisor and administrative development, specialized assignments, record keeping and budgeting. The Training Officer is certified to NFPA instructor level 2 and holds multiple endorsements.
Company Training
All paid staff are trained, as a minimum (and as the course is available), to instructor level one. Additionally, nine personnel are EMS OTEP BLS Instructor/Evaluators. Company level training occurs almost daily to include weekends.

Apparatus Operator Training
Anyone operating apparatus is required to be EVAP certified. All paid staff are certified EVAP instructors.
Recruit Training
A minimum of 60 hours is required for all volunteer personnel. Initial training complements WSFST module 1 for Firefighter 1 and modules 2 and 3 training is obtained throughout the rest of the probationary year.
Accreditation
Currently the District is working to obtain IFSAC (International Fire Service Accreditation Congress) accreditation through Washington State. Priority programs for accreditation include:
- Fire Service Instructor Level 1
- Firefighter 1
- Company Officer 1 and 2

The training plan takes into account: local needs specific to the District, individual personnel development, ISO requirements, recognized standards (Washington State, NFPA, etc.), Federal, State and local law.
- Regular Monday night training for on-duty and volunteer personnel.
- Duplicated Monday night training for subsequent shift personnel, typically occurring on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon.
- Special weekend courses dealing with hazardous materials, EMS specialty training, and County-wide exercises.
- Recruit Academy, occurring both during evenings and weekends.
- Weekly simulator/table top training.
- Officer level training.
- Special shift training is on-going and directed as prompted per leader's and individual's assessment of areas needing improvement and/or practice for maintenance of skills.
- Specialty training (Technical Rescue, Officer Development, Wildland, etc.).
