Water Rescue

Fire District 3 was dispatched to Lucia Falls Park at 1:15pm today for a teenager stuck at the top of the falls. While wading in the water above the falls, the teenager slipped and floated down river. He was able to grab a rock at the top of the falls and pull himself up. The rock outcropping was essentially an island between two waterfalls. The Clark County Technical Rescue Team responded to assist with the rescue; this team has advanced water rescue training and has specialized equipment to handle swift-water incidents. Using a ladder and three rescue swimmers, the teenager returned to the safety of the shore and without any injuries. After the rescue, he rejoined his family to continue picnicking.

While enjoying the rivers of Clark County, it is important to remember there are no lifeguards, and wear a life jacket when swimming.
