Firefighters responded to a brush fire at the 19400 block of NE Risto Rd. today at 11:03 a.m. Battalion Chief Jeff Stewart arrived to find a large fir tree blocking the road, live power lines down, and fire burning up through the underbrush of the wooded area. Fire District 3 crews were able to control the fire with specialized fire apparatus (two squads and a water tender) hose lines, hand tools, and power saws. Department of Natural Resources personnel performed mop up operations. Fire traveled near the road for approximately 200' and about 75' back under the trees. No structures were threatened. Clark County Sheriff's Deputies controlled traffic until Clark Public Utilities set up equipment to make necessary repairs and then they used their flaggers which allowed for limited traffic flow until power was restored.
