Grass/Brush Fire & Power Interruption

A tree at the intersection of NE 119th ST and 132nd AVE fell onto power lines this evening (8/7/2014) at about 9:15 p.m. This caused electrical power in the Hockinson/Brush Prairie area to fluctuate and it ignited nearby grass and brush. Firefighters cleared the road of debris from the tree, and PUD crews fell the remaining portion of the tree. Fortunately no vehicles collided with the debris, no damage occurred to the power lines, and the fire was stopped just as small trees were beginning to ignite from top to bottom. Grass and brush in the area is much drier and susceptible to ignition than it might appear. Photo: Firefighters Guinett and Draper extinguished the fire.
