The target audience this year for our education is K - 3rd grade, ages 5-10, for all Elementary Schools within Battle Ground and Hockinson. Our event includes an educational video created by Fire District 3 that caters specifically to the developmental needs of this age group. From the video, students will learn about smoke detectors, fire evacuation routes, safe meeting areas, and calling 911. All participants will then have the opportunity to show off their artistic skills by illustrating the safety concepts they learned. Each student will be provided an 11” x 17” poster canvas by Fire District 3 to creatively and colorfully construct their fire safety masterpieces. Once completed, the posters will be submitted to Fire District 3 where firefighters will pick a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner for each participating grade of each school. There also will be a “best in district grand prize” chosen for the most outstanding kindergarten, first, second, and third grade art piece submission. The winners of the “best in district grand prize” awards will be presented by the Fire Chief and Mayor of Battle Ground at a Battle Ground city council meeting on November 5th, 2018. Pictures of the winning posters will be posted on the Fire District 3 social media accounts and the poster hard copies will be posted within the walls of the Fire District 3 stations.
